Empty Bowls

Empty Bowls 2015 bowlsEmpty Bowls is our signature event that takes place in the Spring. As of 2015 we have held nine Empty Bowls events in the Plowshares Dining Room. Jan Hoyman Studios, Doug Browe and the Ceramics Club of Mendocino College, and MICA create bowls for guests to take home with them after enjoying a variety of homemade soups, salad, appetizers, breads and desserts.

We have a silent auction, live auction, Fund a Need auction, and raffle of great prizes donated by community members and businesses.

 

 


Blues, Brews & BBQ

BluesBBQ_PostcardThe Fall Fundraising Event for Plowshares is the Blues, Brews & BBQ, started by Executive Director Marlene Kurowski in 2014. The first BBB was a huge success with Marlene’s husband, Blues Guitarist Rich Kirch, who has played with John Lee Hooker Band, Elvin Bishop and many other named bands, was instrumental in putting together an All Star Band, Talk That Talk for the night Blues entertainment. A gourmet meal of Tri tip, chicken breasts and Portebello mushrooms was provided along with Baked Beans, coleslaw and desserts.

Drinks were provided by locally donated wine and Anderson Valley Brewery beer on tap.

Guests danced late into the night.

vol recog 2014 Patrice JimIn the Fall we have our Volunteer Recognition Celebration. We provide a Luncheon and awards for our over 150 volunteers to show our appreciation and recognize their gift of time and talent to Plowshares’ mission.

We honor a Volunteer of the Year, and a Golden Spoon Award for a cooking crew. Last year, 2014, we gave a special award to our past Office Manager, Jim Williams for going above and beyond. Pictured on the left  is Jim with current Office Manger Patrice Mascolo.

Winter Appeal

WA 2015Each Winter, starting in November, we send out our Winter Appeal to the greater Ukiah area for our largest fundraiser of the year. This vast mailing brings in close to 20% of the income needed to run our Diningroom and Meals on Wheels Programs.
